Pregnancy Guide – Review
A Must Read for All Pregnant Women: The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy (Second Edition) by Vicki Iovine
Perspectives! yes you need the right one in something as important as, giving birth to human. That is why you need this good read:The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy (Second Edition) by Vicki Iovine. You know that friend you have? The one that finds out you’re pregnant. The one that becomes your pregnancy guide. Starts giving you the “real deal” about pregnancy? Yes! about labor and delivery not to mention, that whole post-postpartum fiasco?
They don’t mention it before you get pregnant though. Why not? Probably in fear you may run away scared and not want to join the club anymore. I give this friend the benefit of the doubt. She is just trying to keep the human race going after all.
Pregnancy Guide – “ring of fire”
I did not learn of the term “ring of fire” until after I was pregnant. If you don’t know what I am talking about I will save you the search. “Ring of Fire” is used to describe the sensation when your baby is crowning. If of course you don’t opt for an epidural or pain medications, or in the unfortunate situation that neither of those was sufficient enough to suppress all the pain. Of course I knew before getting pregnant that labor and delivery was a painful thing. We have been well programmed through television and movies to expect that, Regardless, the term “ring of fire” is like nails down a chalkboard to me.
“The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy” (second edition) written by Vicki Iovine is “that” friend . Which makes this book a must read for pregnant women. The honest and humorous tone to her writing makes this book hard to put down. Vicki Iovine recounts her experiences. As well as those of people that she knows. For me one of the biggest take a ways from this book is how different people experience pregnancy. There is no doubt that everyone will find pregnancy to be an adventure. How sick or uncomfortable you will be is very unique for everyone and every pregnancy.
Pretty easy pregnancy so far at 25 weeks
To be honest I have had a pretty easy pregnancy so far at 25 weeks. I managed to escape the first trimester with only mild nausea and fatigue. Sleeping has not been a major issue for me either. I do wake usually a few times through the night to a full bladder but falling back asleep has not been a problem. Getting comfortable enough to sleep has also not been an issue yet.Keeping in mind I am not huge yet so that may be a factor or maybe I owe some credit to my maternity pillow.See my review on maternity pillow here.
Either way I am well aware that this honeymoon could end at anytime. “The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy” (second edition) has prepared me for what could be in store. If I make it through pregnancy with little dis-comfort, and have a smooth labor and delivery. If I happen to end up with feet that are permanently two sizes bigger, or stretch marks. After reading this book I definitely can’t say I wasn’t warned. I will do my best to wear these, as badges of honor. Check out my blog about stretch marks here.
The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy (second edition) was the perfect read for for me a pregnant woman, especially as a first timer. My friends advice and experiences all neatly organized and available at my fingertips. You want to be prepared for all the things that pregnancy may throw your way and have a good laugh this is the perfect read. Grab it on Amazon here.
