Baby Change Pad
Best Baby Change Pad
Comparing the Keegaroo Peanut, Bumbo changer and Skip Hop Wipe Clean Changer
One thing you know you will be doing with your baby, are diaper changes. A change pad is top on the list of must haves for any parent to be. Traditional style change pads usually have a soft cushion that you buy covers for. Since diaper changes are a dirty job you know you need to purchase more than one of these covers. These dirty covers will just add to your already never ending laundry pile. This brings me to the best discovery I made, hard surfaced change pads that wipe clean! No muss, no fuss. You save on time by not having to change soiled covers, and cut back on laundry. Once I discovered these easy to clean change pads I knew I had to have one. The three I considered were the Keegaroo Peanut Changer, Bumbo Changing Pad, Skip Hop Nursery Style Wipe-Clean Changing Pad,multi.
Keegaroo Peanut Changer:
Dimensions: 32” L, x 17”W x 4”H
Weight Capacity: 30 lb
Latex free, pvc free, bpa free, phthalate free, formamide free and non-toxic.
Warranty: 5 years
This is a very solid changing pad. It is impermeable to fluid, as well as limits bacterial growth. This changer is surprisingly soft to the touch, but is known to be durable. It is non-slip so you don’t have to worry about it moving around on you. The sides on this angle up and there is a head rest making this very comfortable for your baby. It comes with a safety harness to help keep that wiggly baby in place. Some people have complained that it has a very strong “chemical” smell when first opened. After some time most people say the smell goes away. This is the most expensive changer I looked at. It is an investment piece for sure with the 5 year warranty. A great option for people planning to have more children.
Bumbo Changer:
Dimensions: 27.17”L X 17.13”W x 3.74” H
Weight capacity: 30lb
100% polyurethane
Warranty: 90 days
This change pad is ergonomically shaped and soft making it very comfortable for your baby. It has raised sides and a safety harness to help keep baby in place. It doesn’t absorb liquids and wipes clean easily. The length is almost 5 inches shorter than an average change pad. Which isn’t necessarily a big deal, depending on how quickly your baby grows. As long as the 30lb weight restriction hasn’t been reached it might just mean his or her legs will hang off the end. It being more compact makes it very easy to move around. It does not have a non-slip bottom. Depending on where you plan on using it you may need to secure it down with either a double sided tape or a rubber mat of some kind. It is offered in a few different colors. For the price this is definitely worth a look.
Skip Hop Nursery Style Wipe-Clean Changer, Multi
Dimensions: 31.51”L X 18.25W x 2.5” H
Weight capacity: 30lb
Warranty: 1 year
PCV-free and phythalate-free
This change pad has raised edges and offers a safety harness to help keep baby in place. Soft enough to be comfortable but does not absorb liquid or smell, wiping clean easily. Non-skid base so it won’t move around if placed on a dresser or change table. It also comes with adhesive strips you can place on the bottom for extra stability. What makes this changer unique is the removable mobile, which will help keep baby entertained. It only comes in grey. This is a great option for a reasonable price.
In the end I went with the Skip Hop Nursery Style Wipe-Clean Changer, Multi. This changer offers the length so baby can comfortably fit on it for as long as possible. I am placing mine on a dresser so having the non-skid bottom and adhesive strips was an attractive feature. It is light weight so I can move it around the house easily if needed. Although the other two change pads come in several colors I liked that the Skip Hop Nursery Style Wipe-Clean Changer, Multi is neutral. The grey color actually goes well in the baby’s room. Although it doesn’t have the longest warranty of the three changers, 1 year seems reasonable. The thing that makes the Skip Hop Nursery Style Wipe-Clean Changer, Multi stand out from both the Keegaroo Peanut and the Bumbo Changer is the mobile. It’s a nice touch, and will keep baby busy while I master the diaper change. It’s also great that it can be removed once baby is able to reach it. This change pad offers the most bang for your buck.
One thing to remember when purchasing any change pad is make sure the dresser or change table you will be using can accommodate the size. Although 32” seems to be a fairly standard length the widths vary. I found that the Keegaroo Peanut, Bumbo changer and the Skip Hop Nursery Style Wipe-Clean Changer, Multi all seemed to run a little wider than the more traditional style change pads.
